ok i love this site...but one of the things that annoys me most is when people keep bumping their stuff...even just stuff from

a couple hours ago...and then this means if u dont bump your thing, even if it was only an hour ago its at the bottom of the page,

or even several pages back! then you have to bump yours, and then it makes other peoples' posts farther down, then they bump theirs,

and on and on and on....this is extremely annoying. please, if your post is still on the first page, don't bump!

I believe one of the rules of this forum is that it may only be "bumped" once a day....so if it is really a problem, contact someone in charge.

I agree with Rebecca. There is a rule in the forum rules that the topic can only be bumped once daily. I never fool with bumping mine if they are still on the first page, only bump them up when they are not on the first page and it's been a day or more since I've bumped them up.

This is one of my pet peeves too Susan. Maybe just a polite reminder or even coping & pasting the rule to the person who's bumping too much.

Here's the rule copy and pasted from Book Bazaar Tour--How to use this forum -updated 9/11 (item 7 in Rules)

(2) Members may "bump" their topics a maximum of once a day (bumping = posting a new post in a topic for the purpose of keeping the topic on the front page of the forum topic list). Adding a new post with new information is not considered bumping. If you edit your original post to update information there, this will not "bump" the topic.

Also, you are only allowed 1 new post per day in the Book Bazaar. :) Kim

The reason I bumped this last night was because people were excessivley bumping and had more than one post.  I did this because Bernie told us not to say anything directly to the person anymore, so I figured if they saw this post they would take the time to read the rules since they obviously didn't before posting in here. Not sure how this is part of a problem. You can bump other peoples posts if you want, just not your own. Sorry if your post was moved. It's going to happen anyway.  I didn't bump this, hope that makes you happy!

  • We ask that members not start more than one or two topics in Book Bazaar per day, and "bumping" of your topic is discouraged, as this is unfair to other members.
  • It is perfectly all right to start a topic about your bookshelf and post an update or bump every day (once a day), to let members know about any new books or deals you are offering.

Found this in the Help Documents.....Under learn more about specific forums...

i have been guilty of the repeated bump, but then i took a better look at the rules and now i bump every few days and only if its really important. I do agree that some people do it far too often and i feel that it is abusing the system.

Does anyone else find it amusing that by posting this topic (and each time it's replied to, including this time) another item gets moved to the next page (assuming this wasn't on the first page at the time)? So, by posting a complaint about topics moving down the page & onto the next page you've contributed to it.

However, I do agree with you that it's somewhat annoying when people do it constantly. I have no problem with people doing it every couple of days or after a while just to let people know it's still ongoing or in case someone didn't see it the first time.

Also, if you only want to see the "new" posts you can always just look at the date it was originally posted (that's what I do alot of the time).

LOL  Tim!!!    I was thinking exactly that.

Just took a look in the sticky thread at the top of this forum and found this:

General Rules in the Book Bazaar:

    (1) Members should post only one "bookshelf advertisement/"order from me"/"deal" post per day. You can combine different genres into one post, or "spotlight" multiple books from your bookshelf in one topic.

So, it would appear that Kim was also correct, and that there is some mismatched info.  (Thread / Help Docs)

I'm glad to see that someone else gets frustrated about this topic.  It gets extremely boring to see the same posters bumping their own shelf. One poster keeps bumping 2 of their posts ( orginially  posted in aug08 another in oct08) they are stilling bumping the same post almost on a daily basic. I counted one day and they had bumped it over 100 times. In fact they are on page one as of 6;37 on this beautiful Feb.23 , 09 monday evening

edited: title of bumps that continue over and over

    1.Looking for.......

    2. Two different deals!! I just added more books!! I'm adding more every day!!

What bugs me is the perma threads like buying/selling credits, wl books w different ISBNs and what not.  Why not start a new thread every month rather than running it to 100 pages and have to read it backwards.  I also find the complaint about bumping in a running thread funny :)

I have been suckered into this person's post. I have realized that they are always looking for the same books. Also I have checked the shelf and it seems to me that they havent really added any books b/c its always the same. Just wanted to add my thoughts.

Actually, that is very active and very nice member of PBS and I find it really sad that someone when to the effort not only to insult the posts, but then made sure to identify exactly which ones they were. If they bore you, don't open them. Why should people start new posts if they are looking for the same stuff or offering the same deals?

IMO, the longer running threads are actually the ones that are being polite and not loading the forum full by starting posts repeatedly that say pretty much the same thing.
