The is a classic SCI-Fi Space Opera by Andre Norton.

I read the long out of print Ace Pocket book 40C F-109 1960.

a very early "alien Life" story, which pits earthlings against
a mysterous race of insect like beings, on a far flung Outpost
world, which both races want. For various reasons (spoilers)
neither race is whole successful in their colonization plans
for this world "Warlock".

Timeless, even though this book was written in the 50's
it holds up well, without any modern concept drop out,
which is often an issue for older sci-fi stories.
