I have loved this book for a long time. A fabulous story for late-elementary, junior-high, and older readers. The characters are fun, innocent, show good character, and very realistic. A wholesome, clean, enchanting reading experience. It's one I re-read often throughout the years.

This is the first book about Sara Stanley's stories that she tells, but really they are about her cousins and friends as she lives out her early teen years. They are really cute and are mainly about their ideas of God which are sometimes quite humorous! Each person has their quirks. It is narrated by her cousin Beverly (a boy, despite his name). Sara Stanley can tell beautiful stories in a way that you can't help but listen and believe her, though she is not very beautiful, her voice is.

There is much more to this story than the folktales and other stories the 14 year-old Story Girl tells. Set in the same locale and time as "Anne of Green Gables" by the same author, several children of various ages go to school and church, help their parents, and have picnics, contests and adventures, led mainly by the Story Girl. A good read.
