Anyone know which one of these has an activity book you can use along with the audio CDs?

I would also love to hear from people who have used them, so I can decide which one I might use.

SOTW does. I don't know anything about History of the World.

SOTW does. I don't know about History of the World either. We use Mystery of History... and I *THINK* it also has the CD, but it might just be the book read aloud? The activities for it are contained in the book. Very specifically Christian, and contains more of the Biblical history than does SOTW.

We're actually using the MOH book, with the SOTW activity guide, and probably some older Guerber history books. The oldest is the only one I can't find online, and that one I may order from Nothing New Press. (Christine Miller of Classical Christian Homeschooling has re-released the Guerber histories in modern dialect.)

Anyway. I'm all about history curriculums lately. The History of the World escapes me right now though....

I also recommend The Mystery of History.  Much better than SOTW in my humble opinion.

I think that the activity guide is a must have.  It's fun!

I just got my CD's for SOTW.  I'm very excited about them but haven't determined exactly how I'll use them.  Depending on the ages of your kids the activity guide may or may not be helpful.  We are using the map activities for each lesson but not the coloring pages.  My kids aren't into coloring.  There are a handful of puzzle type activities but it's mostly coloring pages and maps.  That's the reproducibles anyway.  The teacher guide has narration questions to ask, hands-on activities and extra reading suggestions.  We do use the questions and extra reading. 

I have also read parts of A Child's History of the World by Hillyer which is what I think you are talking about.  Some people don't like the tone of the book...too corny maybe.  I like it.  But there is no supporting curriculum to go with it as far as I know.  Plus it's one volume about the size of one SOTW volume of which there are 4.  So I would say SOTW will have tons more information and I enjoy the style in it as well.  It's different from CHOW but still interesting and engaging for the student. 

Either one is fine.  It just depends on your goals and how much you want to do with history, how much teacher help you want, etc.

I've been following this thread because we too are now using Story of the World.  I did purchase the audio CD's and we just listen to them in the car!  It's great!

I may just get tomatoes thrown at me for this but..... we invested in all the SOTW cd's......my kids don't like them!  They are 11 and 12 yo boys.  We have been studying recent history, WW1 and WW2 to the present so I've been having them listen to volume 4.   They moan everytime.   I'll admit I don't really care for them either.  Jim Weiss'  (who we like in other stories) voice seems to drone on and on.  I don't think I'll make the boys listen to the rest of the volumes. 

I second MOH We'll be doing MOH 2 next.  Beefed up a bit with lots of reading.

Now I'll have to eat my words.  We listened to another section today.  It was on WW1.  It was enjoyable.  I had no problem following it and it kept our interest and we learned a few things!!  Imagine that. 

I was mulling over why we were struggling with these.   I realized that maybe it is because we had not studied the time and people that were the topics lately.  I really am VERY poor in my history knowledge.  I think I just didn't have any previous knowledge to relate to and so I couldn't follow what was being read.  It moved too fast and not being an auditory learner my attention drifted

Just goes to show give things a chance before you give up.
