In the folling pages you can discover the magical yesteryear world of the Highlands and Islands-as viewed from the pen of Alasdair Alpin MacGregor.
He introduces us to a whole host of unusual happenings and events. The secrets are revealed of creatures like faeries, brownies and water-horses. There are spine-chilling yarns about ghosts and witchcraft. Wells said to cure all kinds of crippling diseases are examined. And to complete the book Mr. MacGregor recalls adventures from the Jacobite Rebellions.
This issue consists of extracts taken from the 1937 edition of "The Peat Fire Flame" and published by the Morag Press. The present book is published in 1977 with the approval of the late Mrs. C.P. MacGregor's executors.
The illustrations are from "Scottish Pictures Drawn with Pen and Pencil" (1886) and published by the Religious Tract Society - now the Lutterworth Press. We are grateful to them for granting re-print permission.
Readers are reminded that certain local comments made in the author's text were of course to conditions as they prevailed at the time of original publication in 1937.
