A fun mystery but not up to the level of the Amelia Peabody stories. The Vick Bliss books are good light reading.

The beautiful art historian Vicky Bliss now works for the Munich National Museum. Her boss shows her a beautiful gold pendant which was found along with a note in hieroglyphs sewn in the pocket of an unidentified man found dead in an alley. They realize that it is a fantastic replica and she is determined to find the master craftsman who created it, believing that it was to be used in a daring switch with the real thing. She heads for Rome and begins a search through the dusty antique centers of the city. Before long she is caught in a treacherous game of intrigue involving faded Roman aristocrats and a gang of thieves that will stop at nothing to prevent her from interfering in their plans. This story moves rapidly and introduces another mysterious character the thief Sir John Smythe. Fun read with some interesting characters.

A wonderful first for Vicky Bliss as she mets her match literally and figuratively? Maybe. Enjoy the lessons on antiques and the mystery involved.

Peters is an extremely talented writer. Her light tongue-in-cheek style which she uses with this Vicky Bliss cosy keeps the reader highly entertained through out the mystery. A highly enjoyable mystery and a very fun read!

This was a pretty good book, considering that it was written in the late 70s. It had an interesting story line.
