I received a paperback copy of a book yesterday.  Looked a little worn, no prob, but as I flipped through, the spine near the back of the book is totally cleaved/split.  Now, most posters on the forums know that this is against the regulations, and I know I will mark Received with a problem and alert the sender to the fact that this is not allowed.

Now, my issue is that this kind of situation stresses me out (yeah, I know, I'm weird).  Is it detrimental to future swappers to NOT ask for a credit back?  I can still read this book, but I can't post it, and I don't want anybody to be hurt by my inaction in the future.  But I really can't get stressed over this right now.  I'm trying so hard to stay calm, and I know I will get worked up over this.

Any thoughts?

You should mark it received with a problem. Carefully explain the problem and ask for your credit back. Often the problem was just overlooked by the sender, but fair is fair. You deserve a postable book for your credit. There is no guarantee you'll get your credit, but the sender will be notififed to be more careful in the future. And he will eventually lose his membership if he continues to do this on purpose.

I've had too many damaged books come my way to not get at least a few of the credits back.

I agree, you do deserve a postable book for your credit.  Definitely mark it RWAP.

You don't have to ask for your credit back if you don't want to.  That's totally up to you.

You don't have to ask for a credit back.  But you should mark it RWP.  If it's a one time mistake this person made-the red mark won't get them kicked off PBS.  It'll just be a wake up call to check their books better or not send out iffy ones.  If they routinely send out bad books then the red mark will help get rid of them.

You don't have to ask for a credit back.

I agree with that. At some point in time, somebody is going to HAVE to be the last person to read the book.....lol

Maggie, you should do whatever feels comfortable for you re the credit.  If asking for it back injects more stress into the transaction than works for you at the moment, by all means don't, and don't give it another thought.  Sorry you got a bum book, but hopefully you will still enjoy reading it!

I'd mark it RWAP, ask for my credit back and then forget about it...if I got the credit...whoopie!!! If I didn't well bummer but, that's life.  Doesn't hurt to ask if you can feel "oh well" either way...in the past when I've asked I've not even expected I'd get it and when I did I was pleasantly surprised and when I didn't hmmm, I didn't remember it until I was browsing my Transaction Archive sometime later.

As long as you mark it RWaP, I think you've done your part.  The fact that you're stressing about not having asked for a credit back tells me that you probably have a lot going on right now, and if you don't want to ask for the credit there's no reason at all that you should.  You did your bit for the rest of us by marking RWAP, so relax, read your book, and enjoy!

Thanks all for your answers.  I think I may just swallow this credit, and mark RWAP, and move on.

Ahhh...I feel better now LOL.
