Wow, how does one review an 836 page book that is so dark & vile & depraved & depressing, that I think it only had about 40 "happy" pages in it's entirety?!?

I can't really say I liked this book because as I already mentioned, it was REALLY sick & twisted. I am starting to wonder about the sanity of Sherrilyn Kenyon's mind.

However, she threw some major plot/character changes in at the very very end--and if I hadn't read this, the next Dark-Hunter book wouldn't make much sense. So I guess I'm glad I read it.

I will definitely have nightmares & be haunted by this one. You thought "Acheron" was a tough, emotional read? Nah...it was rainbows & unicorns compared to "Styxx." That's all I can say about it.

There are three sides to everything, yours, theirs and the truth. Well...Styxx's book is his version and part of the truth...TWISTED! Ash's book pales as the perversions and sickkos come from every place. This guy can't catch a break at all.
I liked it but at the same time I had to read it in chunks due to the content and treatment of Styxx (Very emotional for me). Like a car accident, it's horrible but you look anyway. The end has an interesting twist (I was like REALLY??)and sets up the next book.

I don't want to give the story away...New Characters/Pantheons made my head swim a bit. Justice is finally served!

If you are a Dark Hunter fan, I would read this.

Yes, Styxx's story was very heartbreaking. Just like Acheron's story, there was plenty of times I was in tears. But also like his brother, it lets you know what he has endured and the kind of person he is. I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

From Author's web site:

Just when you thought doomsday was over

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasnt always been on his brothers side. Theyve spent more centuries going at each others throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if hes willing to trade his life and future for Acherons.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished.

Until now.

She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop...

---------------Bethany's bio

The daughter of the Egyptian god Set and the Atlantean goddess Symfora, Bethany was raised in the Atlantean pantheon as their goddess of Wrath, Misery and the Hunt. It was a task she never relished and she would find peace from her duties by escaping into the human realm where she fell in love with a young farmer named Hector. For him alone, she was willing to give up her godhood and live as a mortal in their world.

But on the very day Bethany was to meet Hector and runaway with him, Apollymi destroyed their entire pantheon and imprisoned Bethany.

Now that shes free, she has vowed to take from Apollymi what Apollymi stole from her. The ones she loves most. Nothing and no one will stop her. Ever.

I can't help but wonder if the paperback would have been better because it's unlikely it would have been as long as the hardcover, which would mean hopefully that a lot of the rape, cruelty, and just plain horror in this book would have been skipped. Each time I came to a scene that I thought would turn into Styxx being tortured of some kind, I fast forwarded. The book was 853 pages. The first 700+ pages were pure agony to read. It truly wasn't necessary. I will give it 1 star for the first 700+ pages, and 4 stars for the last 100+ pages.

I've read Archeron and all the others but this one by far mad my opinion on the others more understanding. Ash is always telling his DH there is always three sides to every story but be never ever considered what his own brother did or has been through, he just couldn't listen to his own advice if he did he would known all the horrors and pain his brother went through for him, if he did he would have never held a grudge for is little brother, yes Archeron was firstborn.
Styxx always stuck up for his brother and loved him until a lie was told and then the two were torn apart. Styxx was never the favorite spoiled entitled Prince everyone thought him to be, everyone hated him since birth. At 5 he want never allowed toys to play with by 8 he was forced to attend politics meetings, and he had a retired General as a mentor in battle before he could even handle a weapon. His mother, after and sister hated him, his brother had their sister's love. We know about their sick twisted uncle but you will read how Styxx tried to save his brother from the uncle.but he two was caufh for 2 months drugged and used along side his brother and branded as a wh©re by his brother and uncle.
Years later his uncle will be back his the same home as Styxx and will be repeatedly drugged and raped by the sick baster to be sold to the high class men in Styxx home town. Until the uncle pushes things to far and Styxx committed treason by killing his uncle. To free his brother from being used as a wh©re.
At 16 he fell in love with a blind young lady, Bethany, but then he also had to got to war and lead troops, their target was the one place he been Atlantis, also to fight the evils that held and tainted his brother. Everything this man did was to help a brother he loved no matter how much pain and suffering he did he always loved, even when his family, town and God's turned the brothers against each other.
After getting Styxx's side of their history I felt that Archeron was the follower that everyone made him to be, granted he learned from his mistakes, but not once since his rebirth did he ever find out the truth of his brother and found out the real truth of what happened. Yes Artemis lied about his perfect life on the tropical island in Hades and keep the lie going until one of her brothers, God of drunken, released him in Talons story was when Archeron knew his brother was back and was so a red as shot that the truth will come public, at least to the DH want Ash really is and his history.
When did Ash finally start thinking differently about Styxx... when Ash's son was born and Styxx sent something to Bas,a gift that Styxx has in his small chest of very personal treasured items. Something that Archeron gave to Styxx to keep until Archeron was safe to have it back. Over 11,500+ years later Styxx sent it and Ash wants to learn the real truth of his brother.
Bethany and Styxx are star crossed souls that have been bounded together for over 14,000 years from before she became in her second life as a Goddess of two Parthenons Atlantians and Egyptian, Daddy is Set but she was not born in her first life she his Set's Light to his Dark and her first love his Styxx's so many greats uncle, founder of his home village.
As I read this one I also went back to Archeron's story and did compare them as well as the others where Styxx sometimes showed up to refresh what happened is others P.O.V.'s. Warning if you didn't like Apollo before you will really really hate him in this one and know how mush he really despised the sister, oh and you will see a whole different side of Ryssa, Apollymi, and more and know the truth behind who the real parents of Urian.

I have read all the previous Dark-Hunter Books before this one and saw no redeeming qualities in Styxx. That said there is always two sides to every story. We see that Styxx life was even more horrible than Ash's which I thought would be impossible to top. We also see that Ash is not all knowing and just as (Human) as everyone around him.
I was really happy that everyone got the ending they deserved and so looking forward to the next book in the series!
