I am hoping to get some suggestions for my 2nd grade daughter who reads at a 4th or 5th grade level.  She needs something more challenginf then books like the Magic Tree House series, but I am worried about some of the mature subject matter in books for 4th & 5th graders.

She read and enjoyed Trumpet of the Swan and Charlotte's Web.  Now the pages are about worn out.  She loves animals so books about them are an easier sell.

I appreciate all input.

Thanks!

Some of the series my girls liked were My Secret Unicorn, Animal Ark, Pony Pals, Lucky Foote Stables, and Nancy Drew Notebooks.  My oldest read Martins Mice when she was your daughters age and still enjoys reading it years later.  Good Luck, Becki

I recommend Beverly Cleary's Ralph books. Actually I recommend all of Beverly Cleary's books. Since all of her books are 'older' they're pretty much 'wholesome'. Stuart Little is a great classic. The Puppy Patrol series are good. And there's also the Santa Paws series. I haven't read any of those yet though so I can't judge their content.
