Can anyone give me suggestions for books for a 4-year-old boy?  I know nothing about him (family, heritage, etc.) other than he likes superheroes and racing cars.  I didn't want to pick an inappropriate book, but I'd like to find a nice one to give him in addition to those usual interests.

Does this make sense?

The best books for a four year old are Dr. Suess books, Berenstain Bears books, Richard Scary books, or the easy level of the step into reading books (with those, you could include the love of superheroes).  Pretty much any book with vivid pictures and an engaging short story would be a good purchace.  At that age I don't think there really are any bad picks, anything that they will listen to will be useful.

My daughter is 5 and the Skippyjonjones books are some of her favorites.  She also loves the Clifford books.  HTH

yup- Clifford, Dr. Seuss, Sesame Street, Bernstein Bears. I agree, it would be hard to make a bad pick for this age as long as it's age-appropriate.
