So my 23-month-old daughter seems particularly interested in books where the characters are human children, not just animals. For instance, she is in love with Emily from Little Bear. She has and likes the Madeline series and Harold and the Purple Crayon. We have a lot of Dick and Jane but they are annoying to read aloud. She also has Carrot Seed. Other suggestions, keeping in mind that we aren't ready for long chapter books yet beyond level 2 readers? Thanks! Last Edited on: 1/6/12 5:26 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Have you read any of the Fancy Nancy series?

Most David Shannon books have a child as the main character. |

Some I found recently are the Dance, Tanya series and the Nora books (like Nora's castle). I haven't checked out Fancy Nancy yet but will. Thanks for the suggestion on David Shannon.

How about Amelia Bedelia or Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. They are along the same level as Fancy Nancy. For younger books there is In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak (actually any of his books would work). Fisher Price has a whole series of books about kids in the differnt level readers (level 1, Level 2, etc). Also Syd Huff. |
