have you read anything by Augusten Burroughs or Haven Kimmell?

Also, Beautiful Boy by David Sheff is really compelling...as is his son's book Tweak.

Beautiful Boy and Tweak were great as was Marya Hornbacher's Madness. I read Running with Scissors a while back, but I will be checking out Kimmel's Zippy. Thanks

I am a huge fan of Haven Kimmel but recently read Change Me Into Zeus's Daughter by Barbara Robinette Moss.  Wow!  What an incredible book!  It may push Zippy off my "favorite memoir" spot.

Also, check the thread about memoirs in Hidden Gems - a LOT of great books mentioned there.

If you liked Jesus Land, you should really read Come Back: a mother and daughter's journey through hell and back.  In fact, I liked it better than JL (but I have reasons to relate to the mother in come back).  Excellent memoir of a mother who, frustrated with her daughter's running away/substance use, sent her to a behavior mod program in Czech Republic.  As in JL, there were levels, but with purpose.  I can't say enough good things about this one!

I wasn't thrilled with If I Am Missing or Dead.

I just finished Mistaken Identity by the Van Ryn & Cerak families.  I thought it was really good.

Hi - You might like All Over but the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg.  Just finished this one and loved it.  Bragg is a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter for The New York Times and this is his memoir about growing up dirt poor in the south.
