From Booklist
Gemma, an overworked ER doctor, her mother, Nonna, a typical Italian widow who spends her week cooking the Sunday supper, and daughter Livvie, a punked-up but well-adjusted teen, are living normal, unexciting lives in New York City until Nonna receives a letter informing her of an inheritance in her childhood village of Bella Piacere. The letter launches the Jerichos into situations both delicious and funny in a novel in which romance is detailed as vividly as the landscape of Tuscany. Gemma becomes embroiled in a mystery with the intriguing Ben Raphael, while Nonna is transformed and charms a man from her youth, and Livvie has a ball with Florence's dashing teens. Adler, author of The Last Time I Saw Paris [BKL Mr 1 01] and many other novels, reveals a deft hand in creating characters to cheer for and settings to dream over in this deeply appealing story of love, family, and the beauty of Italy. This is a great, easy read. The book will take you from the Gemma's life as an ER doctor; her mother's ordinary life, and her daughter's teen life. All three have Italian roots. They go to Italy in search of an inheritance of a villa.
The plot has much: love story, adventure, disappointment,
life's challenges. I enjoyed this book and the writer's ability to keep my attention throughout.

This is the first time I've read this author and I loved the book. If you like Nora Roberts, Patricia Rice, etc. you will like this love story about a grandma, daughter and granddaughter that went to Italy for a few weeks to see where grandma grew up.

She needed a life...

Gemma Jericho is an overworked New York doctor with a handful of a teenaged daughter and a mother who worries that Gemma has no life. So when her mother receives a mysterious letter telling her about an even more mysterious inheritance in Tuscany, Gemma sees her chance: the three of them throw caution and convention to the wind and leave for Italy. Gemma hopes that a change of scenery will bring back the closeness she used to share with her daughter. And perhaps the challenges of living in a foreign country will give her mother something to worry about beyond Gemma's social life.

...And la dolce vita was waiting for her in Italy!

But what they encounter there is far more distracting than Gemma expected: a crumbling old villa and a town divided. Half the residents believe that Ben Raphael, another American, is the rightful inheritor of the villa. As cultures clash, gossip soars, and intrigue unfolds, Gemma is caught up in the most disturbing and delicious trouble she's ever had. Now her summer in Tuscany will change her outlook-and her life-forever.

I'm not a romance fan, but this book I did enjoy. The setting is wonderful and the characters are, too. I'll read more of Adler's books after reading this one.

Gemma is an overworked-by choice- ER doctor who is raising a teenage daughter alone. When Gemma's Italian mother is notified by the parish priest in her old hometown in Italy that she has inherited a villa, the three leave NYC for an adventure in Tuscany. This story was a pleasure to read, with lush descriptions of Florence, Rome, and of course the fictional hometown- Bella Piacere- and very sweet moments related to the transition from girl to young woman, letting go of guilt and allowing oneself to love again, and finding love at a mature age. The author does all of this while keeping the characters interesting, sometimes humorous, and the story light (not depressing). I really enjoyed it.

I gave up halfway through because the Romantic Times blurb had me expecting a romance and there was only one kiss by page 186. It is actually categorized as fiction on the spine. If you want lots of beautiful descriptions of Italy this is a great choice.

Read it this summer. Really don't remember, as I read so many books, but it was typical Elizabeth Adler and I enjoyed it.

I like Elizabeth Adler's books. Fun romances and this one doesn't disappoint. The characters are interesting and the setting is so dreamy! What better place than Italy!! After reading the book I wanted to hop on a plane and travel across the big pond and claim my very own Villa!
