I usually don't like historical fiction & I have to be honest. I purchased this ebook for two reasons - it was cheap & the author was African American. This worked popped up as a suggested read because of others I'd purchased. The first few chapters held my attention but I was leery. I'm so glad I stuck it out. This story was remarkable. The descriptions, character development & unique storyline kept me turning the pages. Lewis remarked that this is the first in a trilogy about Pea Island & I'm off in search of book two right now. I highly recommend this book of historical African American fiction.
