Wow!! It is not often that a book captures my attention that I read the book in one sitting. This is a powerfully written story. Every August we hear about the bombings in Japan. We hear about the devestation. This story tells us how it affected individual people, how it affected Mieko and Tori. How it changed their lives forever. But love conquers all.

To quote a statement made by Tori in the book: "We must all learn to forgive one another."

COMMENTS:
10/24 rec from author via bookcrossing. Mieko & Tori are in their early 20's when Hiroshima and Nagasaki are bombed. Their families perish and they are the lone survivors. Mieko is filled w/ outrage & anger and only wants revenge. He was working in Nagasaki when Hiroshima was bombed and left Nagasaki right before the bombing to return & search for his family in Hiroshima. Tori, survived Hiroshima by being protected in a cove at the harbor. When she finds all of her family & Mieko's are gone, she travels to Nagasaki to find him. She does not escape the bombing in Nagasaki and suffers serious burns leaving her disfigured. Mieko believes Tori is dead & eventually sets out to America to seek his revenge. Tori, is ever hopeful she will see Mieko again. She spends her time working in the hospitals w/ other bomb victims and spreading the word of forgiveness. An inspiring, tragic & heartwarming story.
