We did this last year and it was a big hit, so let's try it again.  I have a ton of good books on my shelf and Kindle but a lot of them are the first in a series.  I  can't justify starting another series when I have tons of series that I've already started.  I'm going to make September my month of clearing the next book in series.  Some are HF and some are CF.  Join me if you like!  I'll have a small prize for the person who reads the most books from a series and for the person who reads books from the most different series.  I'll be pretty lax in defining a "series".   We'll include prequels and sequels.  And we will count non-HF as well.

We'll start Sept. 1 and count only the second and subsequent books of series where you finished the first book by August 31.

If you want to keep track, claim a spot and we'll do our keeping track in this thread.

I'm hoping to read:/

The Corpse at St. Andrew's Chapel (Hugh de Singleton Bk 2) by Mel Starr (Complete 9/27)
A Trail of Ink (Hugh de Singleton Bk 3) by Mel Starr
Unhallowed Ground (Hugh de Singleton Bk 4) by Mel Starr
India Black and the Widow of Windsor (Madame of Espionage Bk 2) by Carol Carr
Prince (John Shakespeare Bk 3) by Rory Clements
Scandalous Desires (Maiden Lane Bk 3) by Elizabeth Hoyt
Sword Song (Saxon Chronicles Bk 4) by Bernard Cornwell
The Bishop (Bowers Files Book 4) by Steven James (Complete 9/30)

Oh my goodness...there are so many more that I could put on the list!  But it would be a miracle for me to get through all of these!

I think I'll do this - I have to take a look-see and decide what I want to read. This is just for the month of September, right Christa?

Yes, it is just for September.  Last year, Vicky, Jeanne and Linda ran circles around the rest of us!

I'm really embarrassed to say I didn't even remember this challenge from last year!  So I went back and read the thread (Did I mention that I love our Table of Contents sticky thread??) Anyway, what a hoot!  We have such a fun group here--reading all those posts made me chuckle all over again.  And yes, I remember doing this now.

This year I'm being really ambitious, and I doubt I can finish all these, but I hope to knock quite a few out!  I'm looking at 6 series, and 14 books!  We'll see what happens.

So...here's my Best-Case-Scenario list for this September:

I want to finish the Baker and Llewelyn series with:

The Limehouse Text (Book 3)

The Hellfire Conspiracy (Book 4)

The Black Hand (Book 5)

I want to finish the Dexter series with:~~DONE

Dexter is Delicious (Book 5)~~Finished Sept. 2

Double Dexter (Book 6)~~Finished Sept. 5

I want to move ahead with Amelia Peabody with:

The Hippopotamus Pool (Book 8)

Seeing a Large Cat (Book 9)

The Ape Who Guards the Balance (Book 10)

I also want to move ahead with Molly Murphy with:

Oh Danny Boy (Book 5)~~Finished Sept. 13

In Dublin's Fair City (Book 6)~~Finished Sept. 16

Tell Me, Pretty Maiden (Book 7)~~Finished Sept. 22

In a Gilded Cage (Book 8)

Then: The Leopard Unleased by Elizabeth Chadwick (finishes her Wild Hunt trilogy)

Northwest Angle by William Kent Krueger (LOVE this series! Not historical, but good solid mystery.)~~Finished Sept. 26

Faithful Lovers and Cherished Wives, #4 and #5, Bridges of Time by Valerie Anand read, 9/2/12 --- read, 9/18/12

Death at Dartmoor, #8 Robin Paige's mysteries read, 9/9/12

Midwife's Advice, sequel to The Midwife by Gay Courter read, 9/11/12

Funeral Games, #3 Mary Renault's series about Alexander the Great

Hermit of Eyton Forest, #14 and The Confession of Brother Haluin, #15 Cadfael by Ellis Peters read 9/8/12 -  read 9/30/12

Wicked Day, #4 Mary Stewart's Arthurian Saga

Miller's Dance, #9 Winston Graham's Poldark series read 9/15/12

The Rebellion of Jane Clarke, third in a series by Sally Gunning    read 9/20/12

Okay, the following is my first stab at a list.  This is a mere drop in the bucket of the series of which I am in the midst --- sad to say.  Actually looking at my "book keeping" software and looking at only "series in progress" was quite daunting.

Murder in a Mill Town (Nell Sweeney #2)                              P.B. Ryan                              Finished 9/2

Murder in China Town (Sarah Brandt #9)                              Victoria Thompson                Finished 9/6

Death in Whitechapel (Kate Ardleigh #6)                              Robin Paige                          Finished 9/6

A Dangerous Affair (Liberty Lane #2)                                   Caro Peacock                        Finished 9/28

The Case of the Man Who Died Laughing (Vish Puri #2)         Tarquin Hall                        Finished 9/26

As the Crow Flies (Walt Longmire #8)                                  Craig Johnson                      Finished 9/17

A Bitter Truth (Bess Crawford, #3)                                      Charles Todd                        Finished 9/19

The Outlaw's Tale (Sister Frevisse #3)                                Margaret Frazer                    Finished 9/13

What Remains of Heaven (St. Cyr #5)                                  C.S. Harris                            Finished 9/3

A one month challenge is good for me. I have a tendency to procrastinate,as I have been doing with 2012 challenge. Glad I re-read the "rules" and will include #2 and the next books in series. And non-H F are ok?

I, too, am surprised at how many series I have unfinished. My real problem is that they are all paper books and I so much prefer my Nook.  But I really need to attack my paper TBR so I'm in. A couple of these are doorstoppers so I doubt I’ll get through all of them, but the list is:

  • The Endless Forest by Sara Donati (6 of 6) -- DONE 9/9/2012
  • Troubled Bones by Jeri Westerson (4 of ?) -- DONE 9/11/2012
  • A Shade of Difference by Allen Drury (2 of 6, but I’ve read all the rest)
  • Pawn in Frankincense by Dorothy Dunnett (4 of 6) DONE 9/24/2012
  • The Ringed Castle by Dorothy Dunnett  (5 of 6)
  • Shadow over Karaith  by Karen Hancock (3 of 4)
  • The Dark Rose by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles (2 of the Moreland Dynasty)
  • The October Horse by Colleen McCullough (6 of 7)
  • The Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan and Brian Sanderson (13 of 13)
  • Seventh Day by Brock and Bodie Thoene (7 of … 12?)

Good morning, Happy September, and let's go!

I'm starting on the fifth Dexter book, Dexter is Delicious.  My DD and I are reading together (basically) and really enjoying these.  Plus, I think we're getting a bit of leftover hurricane rain, so it's a good day to curl up and read!  smiley

Finished "What Remains of Heaven" this evening for my second September book.  Not sure what will be next, maybe "Murder in Chinatown" by Victoria Thompson.
