I am curerntly running an offer on my shelf that is basically "make any reasonable offer... " and I had someone PM me and request several books and we worked out a deal...  that's not the problem... the problem is, the requester hasn't actually ordered a book off my shelf yet.  So, not only do I NOT know where to send the books (that's kinda important...LOL), I also have the other choices that need to be pulled off my Bookshelf so no one else will order them....  SO...  what do I do while I wait for a book to be ordere?  Put all but one of  the books in the deal "on hold" and leave one for them to order?  Put ALL the books on hold and wait for word on which one they want to order, then UN hold that one?  OR, leave them all on my bookshelf and run the risk that someone else will order one (or more) of the same books that have already been requested and that I've already committed to sending...  I don't want my requester to lose any of the chosen books... but at the same time, I have no idea what to do to prevent that...

HELP!!!!  (Thanks!)

Oh, PS... i did PM the requester and remind them to order a book.... how long do I wait?  I really need to go to bed!  LOL

PPS... I also checked my bookshelf to see if that little grey exclamation point was beside any one of the books in the deal because the one hour "buyer's remorse" time limit hasn't elapsed... and there are no little grey exclamation points to be seen...

Maybe they were too happy about the deal and blithely gone off to sleep?  I know that could happen to me one of these days.

Do you know if they particularly want some of the books (the must haves) and only so-so with the rest?  I would hold the must-haves (maybe move them into the reminder list?) and leave the rest on your shelf.  That way they'll have their favorites and can pick out something else and you won't lose out of a possible offer.

On a side note:  I think this might be too frank but, IMO, PBS is a system where whoever put down the credit first would end up with the book.  But you seems to be too nice for that approach.

I've done exactly that, Truc, PM'd worked a deal out with someone, went to bed, and even forgot it until late the next night. I was just lucky no one else ordered any of the books that I'd picked.

Hopefully she will be quick, but, if you get a FIFO order for any of them accept it and tell her you are sorry, but since she didn't order, you couldn't remove the others without losing your place in the FIFO if she happened to change her mind.

If someone else asks for a deal, and includes any of the books she has listed, tell them you already have a deal in the works for that particular books or books, and tell them you will let them know within the next day if the current deal finishes.

I wouldn't wait later than tomorrow night if someone else wants something she's asked for. You can't be expected to lose other orders. Send her a PM telling her that she needs to get this rolling as other people are also interested in some of the books on her list and that you need her to get the deal started by tomorrow evening by 8:00 or some such time.

Do not put the books on hold.  When you put books on hold on your bookshelf, unlike on your wish list, you go back to the beginning of FIFO.  And if the deal does fall through, you are stuck.

Maybe PM them to remind them to order from your bookshelf, not the book page?   As I have done just that when working out deals.  Whoops.

This happened to me recently.  Someone asked for a deal, I accepted, then waited for an order.  When I didn't get one, I PM'd the requestor and it turned out she had clicked on the Book Description (while on my shelf) and ordered the book there.  So the order went to someone else.  Luckily, she was able to cancel that order and re-order directly from my shelf.

I recommend sending another PM and ask your requestor to click the PM button on the book request.  Verify it's not your name, and cancel the order (she can only do this if it hasn't been printed yet).  If she's able to cancel, explain how she needs to re-order the book from your shelf.

Thanks guys!  Unfortunately, by the time I'd got this advice, it was this morning, and last night, I put the books on hold... :(  So there goes my FIFO position...oh well.. and I still haven't heard back from the requester...  I think I'll give her til tonight before pm'ing her again...  i did send a pm last night before I went to bed... telling her what I did.

On the bright side (maybe?  LOL)  I haven't had any more requests for any books at all, so maybe I panicked for nothting...LOL

And Truc, thanks.... :)

*sigh*  next time I'll know...

Depending on where they are, they could be suddenly out of power. With this second big storm on the Eastcoast, it's power roulette for a lot of people. You never know how long you're going to have it, or when it'll come back.

I've heard some people in the Maryland DC area have been out of power since last Friday and the first storm hit.
