Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! / What Do You Care What Other People Think?
Surely You're Joking Mr Feynman / What Do You Care What Other People Think Author:Richard P. Feynman Richard P. Feynman, one of the greatest physicists of the twentieth century, solved the mystery of liquid helium. He also painted a Roman slave girl for a massage parlor, played a skillful frigideira in a Brazilian samba band, and accompanied ballet on the bongo drums. He was judged both mentally deficient by a United States Army psychiatrist ... more »and worthy of the Nobel Prize for physics by the Swedish Academy. If a more curious character ever walked the halls of science, he or she never wrote a book.
Two of Feynman's books are collected for the first time in this special Quality Paperback Book Club edition. "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" is based on taped conversations with his friend and drumming partner, Ralph Leighton. As befits a great teacher and storyteller, little was changed from Feynman's spoken words. His unique mixture of intelligence, curiosity, skepticism, and chutzpah comes off the page as vibrantly as if he were in the room. Leighton also helped prepare "What Do You Care What Other People Think?," published shortly after Feynman's death in 1988. It is a wise and touching reminiscence, at times more serious in tone than in the first, but never less engaging.
Together, these books are a remarkable testament to a true Renaissance man, a rare record of the discovery of wonders that abounded in his life, and in all our lives.« less
