I posted this question on the Mystery and Thriller forum and haven't had a response.  Is anyone here familiar with this series?

I picked up a copy, at a library book sale, of one of Susanna Gregory's Chronicles of Matthew Bartholomew.  It is the 5th in the series and I have never read any in this series previously.  Is this a series that I should read in order?  Or are they more like Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael where the order is not particularly important? Thanks to any one that can help with this question.

Jeanne might know. I'm not much of a historical mystery fan. I think I tried the first one and didn't warm up to it.

I would recommend reading these in order if possible.    While you would still enjoy the mystery of each book without reading in order, you might miss out on some of the history of characters and their relationships with others. There are definitely other minor story arcs outside the mysteries themselves that continue throughout the series.
