The daughter of an American man and working class Tory, who split up during her childhood, Moore was lined up by her headmistress for appying to enter Cambridge University, but left school at 16 instead. After various jobs in Britain and overseas, Moore embarked on a Psychology degree at Middlesex University (then Middlesex Polytechnic), but soon switched to Cultural Studies. Beginning a PhD and journalism career simultaneously after graduation, she ceased working for a doctorate after eighteen months.
During her career Moore has written for Marxism Today, The Guardian, The Independent, and the New Statesman. She is presently a columnist for the Mail on Sunday.
In The Guardian in 1995, Moore falsely accused Germaine Greer of having undergone a hysterectomy at 25. Greer responded by accusing Moore of possessing "hair bird's-nested all over the place, fuck-me shoes and three fat inches of cleavage."
In 2009, Moore resigned (or was removed) as a contributing editor to the Statesman disgusted that former spin doctor Alastair Campbell had been allowed to guest edit an issue.
Moore stood as an independent candidate for the Constituency of Hackney North and Stoke Newington in the 2010 U.K General Election due to her disillusionment with the main political parties. Moore finished sixth out of the ten Candidates receiving 258 votes or 0.6% of the vote.
