This year I decided to sign up for mypoints just to see what I'd 'earn' by opening emails. I also signed up for swagbucks for internet searches. Then around March or April I got a Discover card (still bummed I didnt' realize I could apply through mypoints and get points for it) also doing something called inboxdollars where I think you get an actual check when you reach $30. I didn't really know what to expect since I'm pretty skeptical(or however that's spelled!) but I mostly just open emails and click on the link - some I can do at work but others are blocked and I have to open them at home. I think I've ordered from 2 merchants through mypoints then found I could order through Discovercard and get cashback and in my book cashback is best! I've also signed up for 1 offer - sparkpeople.com -and done the monthly web searches for points. I haven't really 'put myself out' much since I get junk emails regardless. well just now I was checking my 'balances' and seeing what I could purchase with my points/bucks - Discovercard I"ve reached the minimum for a direct deposit of my money though I think I'll let it keep growing(I pay almost everything I can with Discover to get the cashback bonus and often make weekly payments to keep the interest away) though who knows how long til they decided I'm not making enough money for them and they ditch me! swagbucks I have 57'bucks' so far - 45 will get me a $5 amazon e-card and I do order from there quite a bit though not as much as I used to. 115 sb's would get me a $10 barnes and noble card. not sure 'bout this since they're a bit higher than amazon though they do offer free shipping over $25 and discovercard gives a good cashback bonus if I shop through their link..but still keep thinking I could just wait til I'm ready to buy something from amazon before cashing in 45 of my bucks... mypoints - this place is weird in that they hold back some of the pts they say you have on the home page but it's for pending stuff I think. I have 1867 available (and more pending) and a $10 borders books card is just 1400 pts..I usually go to Borders when I have a store coupon or a certain auto-buy author has a paperback out. I'm debating getting this though I may just wait a few more months and see. Doesn't seem like much overall - a $5 giftcard for amazon and a $10 giftcard for borders but heck I've basically done nothing but click on emails and do web searches since February or March - not even 6 full months yet! anyways I'm pretty happy 'bout it and am curious to see what I can do if I put my mind to it LOL! |

I've paid off my balance every month on Discover for years. They haven't dropped me yet. :) (I actually put our new roof on my Discover card a couple years ago. For some reason being able to do that amused me, and it was a nice chunk of change in the cashback. I was checking my account daily until that posted, though. I paid that one off immediately--I wanted NO chance of finance charges on that one!) My only problem is there is now a nice electronic record of what I've spent. That makes me somewhat uncomfortable, but I do like the cashback. I used to apply it to my statement. Now I pick up gift cards for the drug store so my medicines are cheaper, since I get more than I would via cash. My experience with clicking on links in emails was it was way too little payoff for way too much clicking. Different folks have different annoyance-levels, though. I also don't like sites that have "bucks" which don't match dollars, to make you think you've got more than you do. :P |

I bet that roof was a great cashback! I know what you mean about the clicking but I have a lot of 'bored' times when it gives me something to do and really doesn't take a whole lot of time, esp when I can do it at work while waiting for something I"m working on to finish. the inboxdollars is taking forever though..have to get to $30 before you can request a c heck an I'm a little over 1/3 there so I'll see how that does..they're more of a pain having to click on the email then click to get the pts then click on the sponsor site |

I have done the inboxdollars & it was very frustrating. You get .02 per email & survey opportunities were few & far between. I never qualified to take them & that was after spending 7-10 minutes answering questions. I had thought I was well on my way to finishing the survey only to find out those questions were to qualify for the survey. Then when I neared the $30 mark I stopped getting the emails. I spent a lot of time trying to get "someone" to continue sending them. I finally started getting them after a few weeks. Seemed odd timing to stop getting them. When I finally got to $30 I requested a check. It took over 4 weeks to "process & mail" but you are warned if you don't continue clicking before the check comes that they won't send it. So by the time you are ready to take your money & run they have you on the hook for another month. Payoff is too low for the aggravation IMO. |

I have never bought anything from mypoints. Ever. I have been a member for a few years though. Every summer, I redeem the points I have earned just by opening the emails and deleting. You don't even have to wait for it to load. And yes, I can see how it can be annoying. But they send the gift cards quickly and I think they are a great value. In one year, I have opened enough emails (and I referred two people which was an extra hundred or two points) to get a 50$ Old Navy card, 15$ Barnes and Noble, 10$ Bread Co., and 30$ Bath and Body Works Card. Plus, in each envelope, they included a free 15$ FTD card...so I got an extra 60$ there:). Oh, and I never take the surveys on here either. I don't even open them.

I have enough for a few giftcards and now swagbucks has paypal..not a super great exchange rate but hey it's real money right?! I hope they dont' change the 'rates' because I'm hoping to keep the money in there til later in the year. |

I also use MyPoints and have for years. I like the gift cards for gifts and necessary items. I also sometimes use them for special treats for me, for something that I have wanted for a while but don't feel right taking the money away from the family to get. I have something like 8000 points ringht now - I'm not sure exactly. I have done some of the survey sites, and I have gotten fed up with surveyspot. They send an email saying "$5 survey for your child!" and I call my childin the room, open the email, only to be told that that survey isn't available but I qualify for this other one that doesn't pay anything! This has happened almost every time I open the email, so now I just delete them. Other sites work better, though. I need to get back to doing them, and see what I have in accounts :-) |

I too have used MyPoints for a few years now and am really happy with it. Opening the emails is really easy and quick. Also whenever I shop online (probably too much for my own good lol) I always try to remember to go through MyPoints. I always remember with iTunes - especially if you buy an electronic gift card and then apply it to your account you can basically "double dip" - get points for buying the gift card then get points using the money from the gift card to buy songs. I've been able to get a bunch of $25 Macy's gift cards which are always nice to have! |

I've used MyPoints for years also. In fact today, I took all my Target gift cards I've been getting for the points (I had $225.00 saved up) and we bought a steam carpet cleaner. Makes me feel good that I literally got it for nothing. I chose Target to get my gift cards becaue they have such a wide variety of products. I love MyPoints. |

Does anyone know if the giftcards ever go on sale at mypoints? I have enough now for a $10 Borders GC but am wondering if I wait maybe it'll be 'discounted' like instead of 1400 pts it might be 1300 pts? I know the shopping they sometimes offer double points for a day or something...just wondering since this is the first time I've really been able to redeem..still working on inboxdollars. swagbucks I have enough for $5 or so card but am waiting. |

I just cashed in Mypoints last week and got $10 Bath and Body and $10 Borders. I used the B&B today, along with a spend $15 get a free $12 item coupon that I had. I bought five kitchen handsoaps ($15) and a body cream ($12) for a total of $6.42. I always use other coupons with my GC's to make them go as far as I can. The Borders will be part of daughters Bday gift. I've been doing Mypoints for years and probably get about $75-$100 in GC's each year. And I only click on emails when I have nothing better to do since dial up takes so long. |

wow I dont think I'll ever earn that much! I can get a $10 borders GC and almost a 2nd but nowhere near $100 worth! and I just click on emails too.signed up for sparkpeople through there and did a bit of shopping til I found out I could shop through Discovercard and get actual cash back or a discounted GC and decided to do that. I do shop half.com through there since it's not offered at discover. I figured if I got the Borders I could wait for a coupon and a release I want and make it go farther as well! a lot off B&N but they're less convenient since Borders is right down the roadand easy in and out. I just wondered if they feature a GC 'promotion' special like they do the vendors 'double pts' or something so I could get the pts to purchase a bit more! |

I just had to pop in and say I *LOVE* SwagBucks. I only cash in my bucks for Amazon gift cards and I've earned over $200 since February. Not bad considering I simply do a few searches a day on the SB site instead of Google/Yahoo. They also release "SwagCodes" all the time for extra bucks. Seriously, I'm a huge fan. I don't know how referral links are looked upon around here, so I won't link it, but when you refer people to the SB site you get the same number of Bucks that they earn up to 100, so that's nice too. :) ETA: Seems it's OK to post referral links - here's mine: http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/marlatiara if you are so inclined. :) [The site randomly awards you a Buck or two - or on occasion more - when you search. I find that within my first 10 searches of the day, I get at least one Buck. And then I'm done and use Google the rest of the day. ;) ) As for MyPoints, I've been a member for years. I filter all MyPoints emails to one folder and once a day or every other day I go through and click the links. I on occasion will click through the MyPoints site as well (they have a LOT of affiliates that are sites I use anyway - including eBay!). I've earned tons of $25 Amazon and Target gift cards there too. I also use YouData.com - you click ads, they pay you a few cents. They don't have a minimum payment threshold and pay directly to PayPal so that's also nifty. You won't get rich but it's nice to have a few extra dollars (or cents some weeks) in your PayPal account, no? (Again, there's referrals for YouData but they aren't worth much - you get a penny for each click your referral does, up to $1. I think I've made about 50 cents total from referrals over many, many weeks...) Last Edited on: 8/19/09 4:31 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

I've been using MyPoints since 1998, and I love it! I've had the gift cards shipped directly to recipients as gifts, but I sometimes get gift cards to treat myself. Before I bid on an eBay auction for more books (naturally), I make sure to follow the MyPoints link so that I can get more points. I usually manage about $50 worth of gift cards per year. I don't think they ever offer a points "sale," but they do have double-point promotions. I think they recently increased the points "price" for the gift cards ... |

I'm relatively new to both MyPoints and Swagbucks. I'm reserving judgment on MyPoints (I haven't had a chance to redeem anything, but I LOVE Swagbucks. I've been a member for a month now, and I've redeemed my Swagbucks for three $5 Amazon.com gift cards. I've found that's the best deal. SB gives me the gift cards quickly, and I have no problem redeeming them on the site. And free books are always a good thing! I have gotten most of my family hooked too, actually. I finad that I can earn a Swagbuck by searching about once every 6 hours or so, so in a day or computer use, I usually earn one twice. They add p quickly, particularly if you refer other people. I don't really bother with SwagCodes because I'm rarely quick enough to get them. If anyone is interested in joining, my referral link is below. I just installed the Swagbucks toolbar on my Firefox browser, and I do my searches there. It works for most everyday things, but I do find that if I'm doing research, I want to switch to google. www.swagbucks.com/refer/amoamasamat |
