I never thought I'd see the day that I came across a Maya Banks novel I didn't enjoy. Well I did indeed come across it in Sweet Persuasion. I give this on 2 stars (2.5 just on the basis of Julie). In my opinion, this bdsm story bordered more on the hulmilation side for my liking. I found myself wanting to skip all the Serena/Damon scenes to read the scenes of the minor characters. So I guess this book would have rated higher with me if you cut out the two main characters. I know this is book 2 in the series, but in my opinion it's definitely worth skipping and going on to the next book in the series, Sweet Seduction (Sweet, #3)(Julie and Nathan). Hopefully it will rate higher.

I haven't decided if I can recommend this one or not. I have read, and enjoyed, other books by Maya Banks. But this one had a couple of things that I just couldn't see happening. For one thing, the main character, Serena, told her new Dom that she couldn't call him "Master" because it "seems silly". Yet she had no problem calling another guy "Keeper". And what was really surprising was that the Dom refused to let her have a "safe word". I could understand if they were in a long-term, experienced relationship, but Serena was looking to fulfill a fantasy for the FIRST time. Sure, she agreed, but no "safe word" for a newbie? Disturbing.

5 stars! Whewee, what a ride! This "fantasy" story was awesome--hot hot hot! I felt the emotional connection between the h/h; to me it was realistic and moving. The hero showed tender feelings; the heroine worked through her fears and reservations. I don't know much about the BDSM scene but I didn't think anything described here was raunchy or over the top. The secondary characters were interesting as well, and I'm eager to get started on the third book in the series. Fantastic story!
