Travels with Macy: One Man and His Dog Take a Journey Through America in Search of Home
Author: Bruce Fogle

Vet, writer and broadcaster Bruce Fogle flew to North America with Macy, picked up a 25-year-old silver and red motor home, and set off around that great continent to experience the land, it's people and any wonders that awaited them.  Having decided to retrace the footsteps of John Steinbeck in his 1962 book Travels with Charley, Fogel was sure he would find the beauty of rural America spoilt and the people as unworldly as during his own childhood.  But  what he found surprised him.

Travels With Charley: In Search of America
Author: John Steinbeck

To hear the speech of the real America, to smell the grass and the trees, to see the colors and the light - these were John Steinbeck's goals as he set out, at the age of fifty-eight, to rediscover the county he had been writing about for so many years.  With Charley, his French poodle, Steinbeck drives the interstates and the country roads, dines with truckers, encounters bears at Yellowstone and old friends in San Francisco.  And he reflects on the American character, racial hostility, on a particular form of American loneliness he finds almost everywhere, and on the unexpected kindness of strangers that is also a very real part of our national identity.
