I have a TBR book from pre-ISBN times (1956), which I assume I can only post, with a system-generated "inventory number", when I'm finished? I ask as I'd like to upload the cover in advance.

I just found out the hard way that the link to post the book cover when you are adding in a book with a system-generated "inventory number" does not work.  (PBS knows about this problem, but hasn't yet resolved this issue.)  I'm told that the only way to load a book cover for these books is to use the Upload Book Covers link at the bottom of the page.

You can add an image to books with a system-generated ISBN but cannot edit book data for such a book. 

I don't think you can upload the cover in advance of posting the book, because the Upload Book Covers link attaches an image to a specific ISBN and if the book is a no ISBN volume, there would be nothing to which you could link the image .  Best thing to do is post the book, using the No-ISBN method, then add image using Book Cover link.

I've added pictures to several of my system-generated books this way, once I realized that the posting link was broken and that you had to use the Upload Book Covers link.

I posted the book just long enough to get a system-generated ISBN assigned, added it to my TBR pile, and then deleted the entry on My Bookshelf (as available). Uploaded cover is pending.
