"A FIRST-CLASS THRILLER WRITER... There are very few North American writers of spy espionage or adventure novels who can hold a candle to him...There are enough pursuers, corpses and enigmas...to gratify any readers-for-thrills......

I read a lot of detective fiction, police procedurals, and spy thrillers. To my mind this is one of the most enjoyable novels I've ever read. It is said that Hyde spent 20 years preparing this book for publication and, to be truthful, even he has never yet equaled his own success in out-doing John Le Carre and other esteemed post-war espionage writers.
While I re-read a lot of literature, I rarely re-read books in the genre I consider entertainment reading. This is an exception. Over the years I've read it three times and I might still go back to this well-creased paperback. I've never recommended it to anyone who didn't thoroughly enjoy it.
