Hello fellow romanc readers,
I'm just taking a poll. I hope I'll get more than just a few responses.
I want to say in this forum we've discussed titles of romance books. However, I wanted to take a poll of what people thought of well-known titles of other books and movies tweaked for a book.
For example, I've seen a few books already playing on the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" title.
What is the general opinion when you see a book with a popular title tweaked? And not just a romance, but any kind of book? What do you think?
I'm really curious to see the opinions! Natalie B. |

I usually consider it to be someone with no originality of their own, trying to get in on the hype of someone who does. |

I would agree with Sherri. It does not make me want to read the book more. Then again, if it's an author I like, the title won't really matter. I don't choose books to read based on title alone, so whether I read it or not depends on what else the book has going for it. |

The author of that particular book I think has beat that dead horse himself which is fine as it's his book title to exploit:lol: As far as it being tweaked by other authors for their books--I third Sherri--not very original or sporting of them. |

It is a total turn off to me. I won't request or buy a book like that. Seems like a most unoriginal writer. |

And not just the title. I know we discussed here (PBS if not in this forum) how all the YA books for awhile looked like Twilight knockoffs. So unoriginal. And do the authors/publishers think we're stupid? That we won't be able to tell the difference? It totally turns me off and it will take something great to make me read the "copy".

I agree that it shows no originality. Though usually the title does not matter to me - I choose books first by author, then by cover (I know - never judge a book by its cover!) usually I don't pay close attention to titles... Last Edited on: 4/26/11 6:50 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

Derivative & cheesy. Like porn movies that tweak the titles of mainstream releases. I guess it's all well & good if that's the association you're aiming for, but. . . ewww. |

I don't like them, but I don't blame the authors -- authors may or may not have any input into their titles. |

Thanks for the opinions. If anyone else coems in and reads this, I would love to hear more opinion.
Being that I'm a writer, I have heard that more often than not, writers dont' have a lot of weight when it comes to titles. I was merely wondering what people thought of publishers/authors doing this kind of thing. I want to say for myself I may or may not look at the synopsis for the book. If it's an author i know, I will. But an unknown author? I just roll my eyes and move on. Lol.
Thanks again for sharing! Natalie |

I have a problem with publishing houses that reissue under a different title, i.e. Hannah Howell books that are all now titled HIGHLAND something or other and have nothing to do with highlands. |

I think it makes it sound cheap. Sorta like a porn flick. They do that alot with porn titles. I don't like that association. There is no relationship betw romance and porn! |

Arggh. I hate when I type a whole thing and then erase it by mistake.. I think if the author goes the extra mile with it, it is a great idea. I bought Eat Prey Love by Kerrilyn Sparks because the title was so clever.
(And what, you don't want to watch Romancing the Bone?) |
