Back of Book says: William H. Armstrong is not only the author of the award-winning book Sounder but also a teacher of history and study techniques at Kent School in Connecticut and a farmer. He has raised Corriedale sheep on the rugged uplands surrounding his house, so he knows well the ways of lambs like Tawny and sheep dogs like Dingo.

I say: Published in 1979, this is an oldie but a goodie. Only someone knowing the ways of sheep and sheep dogs could have written this book. It is a delightful story about the friendship between a dog and an outcast lamb and how they influence each other. The story is good just as a story but it also has many moral overtones for family and school discussions. There are beautiful sepia toned illustrations scattered throughout.
