I have had this series recommended to me over and over again and am about to take the plunge, was wondering if anyone here had read it recently and liked it. I kind of wanted to know how well it is received outside the one person who keeps telling me I 'have' to read it.

To tell the truth I am afraid of reading it and not liking it, then having to tell my friend lol.

I haven't read it yet, but three of my friends have read the first novel, Across the Nightingale Floor, and liked it.

I listened to this series, and just loved it.  It's very different; set in Japan during the Middle Ages, with a bit of magical realism thrown in.

I read it and enjoyed it quite a bit. It has a very japanese feel [aside from the fact that it takes place in a pseudo feudal Japan I mean], so don't expect the hero to swing in on a chandelier, brandishing his sword, saving the girl and killing the evil overlord. If those happen, it has a much more subdued feel to it.

It is a bit gritty and gives a good feel for how brutal that era could be. If you like the first one, you'll like the rest. If you don't like the first one, don't bother with the rest.

cheers!

I loved it--in fact, it's on my keeper shelf in hardcover. My daughter loved it too, so I bought her her own copies so she wouldn't be borrowing mine! LOL

My husband and I both loved the series.  He has read the entire series, I still have the prequel left to read.  I highly recommend them!

i have listened to the first 2 books and liked them alot.  They switch between the girl and boy story and have a different reader for each & I really liked both readers.
