Ok, back when I started buying paperbacks (1999/2000), I got it in my head to use boxing tape to support the spine and cover. As such, a number of my books have no bent corners and nearly perfect spines (after being read several times and being several years old). The tape does not yellow like normal tape does and is easy to pull off the cover though it may marke the inside cover slightly if one does not pull slow.

Are these books ok to post, or should I remove the tape first? Would this bother anyone?

Thanks!

Amber

Amber,

Library do this often for the same reason.  I would say that as long as the inside of the book is fine (can't see the paper backing of the spine through the pages) then you can post them.

I agree.  If a little tape on a book bothers someone, they need to have a requestor conditon about it.  Tape on a book doesn't necessarily make it unpostable.

I would say as long as the tape wasn't used to repair a book that is otherwise unpostable (torn cover, broken spine, etc) it is OK.

I think what Laura said is key -- if it is "preventive/protective" tape, it should be fine.  If it is covering a repair, not so good.

And good on you, Amber, for taking good care of your books :-)  You might even consider stating that information in your profile or the banner on your bookshelf, as I think many members would consider that a good selling point.

Cheers,
Catt

I appear to be in the minority, but I would be unhappy if I received a taped book.    I expect paperback books to have perhaps a little reading crease, or name inside the cover -- but I think tape at the spine violates the spirit of books that can be posted here.

ex-library books are allowed, therefore books with tape are allowed. (as long as they are not making a repair that would be otherwise unpostable (like fixing a rip over 1 inch)).

I'm perfectly happy to receive and re-post books with tape!

Wouldn't bother me a bit to get a book like this.
