Giles was one of the finest of Kentucky narrative fiction writers of the 20th century, along with Jesse Stuart.
This is the story of Tara Cochrane, a WWII veteran doctor with his own spiritual/psychological issues to solve. He winds up in very rural Kentucky trying to understand life from a point of community view that is almost gone from our midst. There is a lot of depth in Giles writing as she explores her characters and the nature of healing.
This is the third of the Piney Ridge trilogy. You will want to read them all.

Tara was fresh out of the war and needed some healing when one of his men took him home with him to the mountains.Gradually,he renewed mind spirit and body while living among people far worse than he. I loved these books by JHGiles and will keep them for awhile.
