I'm looking for the teacher's edition of "Elements of Writing" (first course) by Holt & Warriner. Does anyone have one they are willing to part with (even if you want it returned this summer) or know where I could get one inexpensively? There is one over at Amazon, but it's $65 and I'm hoping for less than that. Post here or PM me if you have any info that might help me. Thanks!

And, yes, :o) I learned my lesson. I got the textbook, fell in love with several parts of it, and quickly learned that it's not much help to me without the teacher's edition. Some help, but not much. At least I got it through PBS so I didn't spend a lot of money to learn this lesson. Not too bad, eh?

If it doesn't turn up on PBS, try Amazon's marketplace for used books.  I've had good luck there.

Update - in case anyone is interested.    :o)

The first part of this textbook can be used without a teachers' edition and my teen boys really like it.  It teaches about different kinds of writing, has good examples, leads into journaling and seems to have good writing exercises.

The second part has great looking grammar lessons with lots of exercises that I feel I need the teachers edition to use effectively.  We're using the first part now, and have ordered a teacher's edition that I found at Amazon.com.  I'm hoping it's really what I think it is (I wish I could PM sellers there with questions, like I can here!) and that it will help me out with the grammar section.

When I ordered this textbook I had planned on using it just as an additional resource.  Once I looked through it I really liked it a lot and decided to try using it instead of the creative writing books that I had bought.  I didn't know about the second section when I ordered it, and I'd be fine without it, but it looks so useful that I hope that we can be using it in a few weeks.

Am I boring you?  I thought maybe people might be interested since my kids are older than many here and you have the whole high school thing to look forward to.  Also, it's exciting as a new homeschooler to figure out how this whole thing works!  :o)

I got the teacher's edition from someone at Amazon.com for only around $10. Happy day!
