Anyone read this? I looked on Amazon to read reviews (I take reviews VERY seriously when deciding whether to read a book or not)

Anyway- the reviews for this book were ALL over the place... lots of comments for each star rating.

Anyone wanna help me here!!! I had it WL'd and it is up for me now, but unsure whether to order it...?

THANKS!

OK, I'll take a stab...

Though I love Ted Dekker, and still consider him to be my favorite author, Skin is definitely not my favorite. It's been awhile since I read it (I bought it the day it came out and did little else until I finished it. Shows how much of a fan I am. The fact I only read it once shows how much I disliked it).

I mean, it wasn't bad. Not really. It was very interesting throughout. It had plenty of good things going for it. But I got the impression that it was a book only a true Dekkie could like--I really wouldn't recommend it to a first-time reader.

I don't know. Maybe it just didn't live up to my expectations. I found it a little weird, a little out there---which is usually right up my alley, and one of the reasons I like Dekker so much---but it fell flat, in my opinion. Or went overboard. I'm not really sure.

It does end with a classic Dekker twist (or 2. Or 3), but I must say that this is the only one of his where I actually felt cheated. I'm still trying to decide if I actually liked it or not.

Also, it relies on some backstory found in his Paradise/Circle novels. Not a big deal, but there are a few random scenes, incidents, and occurences that would make more sense if you were familiar with his other works.

I know it sounds like I just spent a whole post bashing Ted Dekker, but I don't mean it like that at all. It's precisely because he has so many other good books that I would never recommend Skin to anyone. Try Thr3e, Blink, or the Circle trilogy, and then maybe you'll be ready to read Skin.

I don't feel like you bashed Dekker at all. Every writer has that one, two (sometime many more) books that just don't live upto the greatness of the others.

I had read a few reviews on Barnes and Noble and Amazon about this book. Some hated it. Some liked it. Some thought it was great. Others thought (just like you) that it was a little OUT there.

I appreciate your honesty. I  do NOT order the book after all. I really rely on others reviews so I appreciate your opinion.

I have read Circle. I really like Circle Trilogy. I heard lots of his books kinda tie into them. I will NOT be readng Skin. I did just order Showdown and House. I also have Blink, so I will still be into more of his writings. Just needed to know if Skin was really as disapointing as the other site reviews said.    =)

Thanks again!

Blessings, Verlina
