and what are all the symbols at the bottom of hte names?

Hearts, apples ETC

If you hover over the symbols, it will tell you what they are for. The coins and the apple are for donating credits to either PBS or the school donation program, the yellow icons represent PBS volunteers (Book Data team, Book Image team, etc). I think tour guides have a blue icon that says TG.

Box of books is a program where you pay a yearly fee (I believe it is currently $8) and you can then trade books with other "Boxers", without using credits. So, you and the other Boxer work out some equitable trade of your books between yourselves, (using the tools that PBS provides) and you don't need credits to do it.
