ISBN 1579390749 - Traditional board books are great, but novelty board books are, well, novel! The rolling green eyes of this title are bound to catch your child's attention, not to mention yours.

In the style of Ten Little Indians, there are ten little dinosaurs getting into all kinds of trouble. From the basic ten bouncing on a bed to six jumping off a peak, the dinosaurs slowly become extinct.

The rhyme is both cute and kind of strange. The names of actual dinosaurs are something a parent is likely to stumble over, but at the same time, it's educational too! The rhymes don't have the feel of leading to the death of a dinosaur (For example: Two little dinosaurs watching baseball, Saurolophus yelled, "Hey, that's a bad call!" The umpire didn't like that talk at all, No more big mouths watching baseball.) but they do end up extinct. There's two potential negatives to that. One, if you feel uncomfortable with death in a book for little children; two, it feels threatening because they do "bad" things and end up dead. Some parents might not like the namecalling in some rhymes, although many are simply "nicknames" for the dinosaur - big mouths could really just be dinosaurs with large mouths. Or you could overlook that all and realize that getting your kid's nose in a book is the goal. The text of the board book does not seem to be the same as the text of the hardcover (no skate board in the board book, as an example).

The pages are thick cardboard and will stand up to young children. The bulbous eyes extend through holes in each page and that's the weakest point of the pages. The eyes seem to be securely attached - I haven't been able to detach them - and don't present a choking hazard unless they come loose. One strange thing about the eyes. They're single-sided and the reverse side is white - if you lay down with the book held above you, they roll back to solid white, which is a little creepy. The illustrations, by Jim Harris, are superb. Children, especially dinosaur fans, will love Ten Little Dinosaurs.
