Hi there. I've never been a reader of paranormal romance, but this one book series caught my eye — Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, Bk 1) : Patricia Briggs. Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Would this be a good series to start for someone new to the genre?

I just read Moon Called and I have to admit, although I enjoyed it, I became confused a few times. So I guess what I'm saying is I'm not sure it's a good place to start in this genre. I did hear that the next two are even better than the first, which I hope is true because I have the 3 in 1 hard cover. My favorite, and it seems to be raved about by a lot of people, is J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Also, Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Here's a few more: Sookie Stackhouse series - author, Charlaine Harris Argenaue (sp) series - author, Lynsay Sands Vampire series (Not sure the actual series name) - author, Kerrelyn Sparks

that series is not really a romance series, it is more urban fantasy. I love it though and its a great one to read. For paranormal romance I would start with maybe larissa ione, katie macalister, lynsay sands, susan sizemore, lori handeland( her were series), lara adrian, cathy clamp and ct adams, jenna black (her vamp series), kathryn smith some of those are better than the others, but they cover a pretty wide range of writing styles so I would start there. |

If you want real romance books, it's not the ones to start with. Although it's a great series, it's a little frustrating on the romance part. BEST para romance series I've read to date, can't quite get enough of, Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole. Amazing, but must start with book 1, Hunger Like No Other, because they're all intertwined to create a great overall story. |

hmm I have the Immortals in my tbr..maybe I'll start that series this weekend! I just started one by Jean Johnson - The Sword.but not too far into it. I like light/funny/romantic paranormal and so far my fave series though haven't tried them all yet by any means! ahs been Kerrelyn Sparks Love at Stake series. how to marry amillionaire vampire is the first. I have the Patricia Briggs books, well the one you mentioned and On the Prowl's short story and Cry Wolf. I ahven't read them yet except for the short story but my coworker who's a huge fantasy fan (won't read straight romance) liked them a lot..she found the 2 or so after Moon Called at her library and read them all ina few days then she read the anthology and Cry Wolf. |

You can't go wrong with IAD, I have yet to read a better series. I love love love the Sookie Stackhouse series because it's a great series and I love the characters, but I still think IAD is better written and hotter. And I also get the biggest kick out of the Valkerie wit. |

Start with the Sookie Stackhouse books! I think it is a nice way to ease into paranormal romance... at least, that is how I did =) I really liked Moon Called too. It doesn't have much romance in it... but if it caught your eye, go for it. It is a good read. I'm actually about to read the 2nd one. |
