What do you do if someone orders a textbook with writing, you PM them about it as per the site rules, and they haven't gotten back to you by the time the order is going to time out?

The writing in this book is very minimal (just markings by the school system identifying it as their book on several pages and across the page edges on the outside). There is no highliting or student markings or any markings on the text at all that I could find, and despite being over a decade old the book is in great shape. I've had it posted for a long time so I'd love to pass it on, but I really don't want to get dinged on it and have to return the credit, because it is a big heavy book and it's going to cost more than the price of a credit to mail it. But it's going to time out tomorrow morning and I haven't heard back from the requester.

I would send another polite PM and if she hasn't responded by tomorrow, I would cancel the order. Better safe then sorry.

If the school markings are not on the pages with text (just on the blank pages or title page, etc.) then the book doesn't count as being written in--at least according to my understanding. If this is the case, I would notify the requester of this and  go ahead and send the book.

I agree with Colleen. It's not enough that you described the condition to the requestor, you have to have a PM from them agreeing to what you described. As from Postability guidelines:

  • if you post a textbook/workbook, the condition must be described to the requestor in a Personal Message
  • AND the described condition MUST BE AGREED TO in a reply PM before the book is sent

All books are postable with markings on the edges of the pages, and all books are postable with stamps or markings on non-text pages.

I agree with Amy, if that is the extent of the markings, then the book is postable without any PMs needed.

You don't have to PM about all textbooks, just ones that would normally be unpostable due to markings on the inside.

Send them another PM. If they don't respond, it is up to you of course, but if it were me, I would probably send the book, since it doesn't sound like has the kind of markings that require pre-agreement anyway.

I never PM about cookbooks or textbooks that are clean (meaning normally postable). You don't need to.
