I requested a couple books from a member and we agreed on a 3 for 2 deal. After she mailed the books I received this message:
I just put all 3 books in the book drop. One of the books may have some ash from my fire pit outside. I was outside reading close to the fire pit and some wind blew some ashes on me and they got on the book. Please let me know when you get them in and if you are not happy you can return them and I will give you back the credits you paid for them. I had not noticed the ashes on that one book until I was wrapping it up. I would have pulled that book from my list if I had noticed it earlier. It is a good thing I gave you one free. We can just count that one as the free one.I am really sorry. Ok, this kinda surprised me. Why didn't she let me know about this before she mailed the books!! So, nothing to do except wait until the books arrive. They came yesterday and one of the books has some smudge marks and lots of small black dots on the page edges. Otherwise in good condition. As it happens the book with the damage was one of the two books I requested from her shelf. The other 2 books are in good condition, no issues there. What really bothers me is she didn't contact me before she mailed the books. I would have just cancelled the requests if she would have given me the chance to reply. While frustrating, I did receive 2 books in good condition for 2 credits. I'm not sure yet what I should do. Please, any advice would be much appreciated:) --Amy

You have a couple of things to think about:
1. If there are just smudges on the page edges, then you can usually use sandpaper to clean it off. If it was me, I would be very annoyed at the way the sender handled this matter, but I wouldn't RWAP. But, that's me. If you do decide to mark the book RWAP, then remember, you don't have to send the book back for her to refund the credit for it. The other member must refund your credit(s) in advance, and then compensate you for the postage to mail the books back to her, in addition to the refunded credit(s). So, whatever you decide, don't mail them back to her at your expense, because that is absolutely not required here at PBS. Last Edited on: 6/13/12 7:17 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

You could mark the book RWAP and not request your credit back, but just to let her know that this type of thing isn't acceptable at PBS. (Sort of a warning, I guess). As said, you did get two books for two credits, but one of the books you paid a credit for wasn't postable (unless you can clean it up). Guess it would depend on how long the sender has been here at PBS. If she's a 'newbie', I might not request my credit back, but if she's been here a while, then either she's disregarding the rules, or hasn't read them, and I might ask for the credit back. Good luck in whatever you decide. Pat |

Thank You Sara & Pat:) Appreciate the advice and I really needed another members perspective. I was going back and forth if this would warrant a RWAP or not since my biggest issue was with how she handled the situation. It surprised me especially since she has been a member for 5 years. Since I did get 2 postable books I'm not really concerned about asking for a credit back, although I will let her know in a very polite way that I was disappointed with how she did handle the situation and just let it go at that. I did try the sandpaper and it doesn't look quite so bad now. I'll just offer it as a free unpostable. It's in really nice condition except for the now faded black marks. Thanks Again for your advice:) --Amy Last Edited on: 6/14/12 5:35 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |
