Well-detailed illustrations of various winged and flying creatures give children a close-up view of animals that otherwise might be hard to see in detail because of their fly-by nature. Wasps, lady bugs, robins, vultures, swans, bats, dragonflies, prehistoric birds, and other creatures with wings that flap in flight are introduced. In addition, Creagh writes about animals who do not fully fit under the category of "has wings, will fly in mid-air." Not all winged creatures are able to fly, while certain frogs and squirrels can soar short distances without the aid of wings. Penguins' wings are used to "fly" not in the air, but underwater. This book makes for a concise, colorful introduction to the family of winged creatures.
