I requested a book that was #1 in the series (I really like to read books in order, if I can) and I received it. I marked it received and it sat here on my desk for a few days.  I went to put it on "to be read" shelf and realized on looking at it, that I won't be able to swap it through PBS. The cover (it is a pb) is pretty chewed up, although not awful. What I mean by "chewed up" is that the edges are curled a bit and the cover is wrinkled somewhat. I am having a really hard time explaining this! In other words, I have bought books like this at the UBS (admittedly on a bargain table)...well, maybe not quite this worn. However, I would not feel right putting in back into the system. Question is this: should I have marked it RWP or will this just happen that I will get a book now and then that can no longer be swapped here. I have already marked it received as I said above so this question is for my further education in this regard. Thanks in advance.

Some books will end with you if they are worn. So if you think it is has met the end of life -don't mark it RWAP.   I have  a few books I received and before marking them received  - I took them out of the wrapping and made sure that it wasn't  unpostable due to staining, writing, torn pages etc.  If it was just worn and too worn for me to repost I would just let it retire on my bookshelf.  Good Luck.

I've also received books that were postable under PBS guidelines, but with me they'd reached the end of their road.  I wasn't comfortable reposting them.  Fortunately, a couple were WLd books, so I put them in the book bazaar and they were snapped up.  Pat

If you feel it is too worn, then don't repost it.

Nothing you described makes the book unpostable, though. The cover can be wrinkled, as long as it doesn't have any rips larger than 1 inch on it. And the pages can be curled.  So, I wouldn't RWAP one in this condition, either.

Thanks to all who replied. The book just looks tired, you know? I can put it in the bazaar as someone suggested.  I have a 2 for 1 all the time just to entice folks to pick some books from me!
