This is One of the best epics of vampirism I have ever read. The vampires are coming to take over LA. The human and vampire characters are all well done. McCammon threw some very new twists into the takeover of one of our biggest cities. I wont give any away but I have enjoyed every page. A classic!!

I read this book in the 80's and then again in 2009, and I loved it all over again. I like this book as well as any Stven King book I have read. A "modern" day vampire story with likeable and believable characters and plot. The author really pulls you into the world and workings of a vampire cult, and the people who try to stop them. I recommend it if you like a good scary story.

Robert McCammon is one of the best horror writers of the 80's, and They Thirst proves it. It is a vampire story that is not about love, but terror. And it is scary. You know how in the old vampire stories there is maybe 3 vampires... WELL, They Thirst takes this concept to a new level when every night, every one who is a vampire takes bites and drinks the blood of everyone they see, meaning there are 1st 2, not wait 4, no wait, 8, 16, 32, 64... and after that there are blocks of vampires and whole neighborhoods fall to them. And when everyone realizes something horrible wrong is happenning they can not leave the city (oh, did I mention that the story takes place in LA?), a major sandstorm pours over the town, which seems to calm down at night, just in time for the nightly feeding frenzie. With all those being turned, there is one old cop who has been releaved of duty for telling everyone that they are fighting vampires, and a boy whose family has been wiped out and a few others. And the battle is obviously not won easily. And not all the heroes will see the daylight when the story is told.

Was kind of bummed how this story came out. I guess I expected alot out of this book since everyone said it was VERY SCARY and "Couldn't sleep for days" and such. But I didn't really get scared at all. Even my bunny slippers weren't afraid.

This is good for those that don't read alot of vampire horror. And this is a good book for those that do read vampire horrors; but just know this lacks the Vampire Romance that we all love. I didn't feel that there was any Vampire Romance at all in this book. I really wanted to like this book; but it just wasn't for me.
