My kids and I love this book. When you have connections in Texas or the southwest, it serves as a great variation to the "Three Little Pigs" story. And - it has a GIRL. Susan Lowell did a nice job about adding tiny bits of info - like what a javelina is, what saguaros are, and tiny bits of language from a Native American and a Mexican. "Unusual" words even have a pronunciation key. I'm thinking about ordering another copy because we spilled water on our first.

Once upon a time, way out in the desert, there were three little javelinas. Javelinas (ha-ve-LEE-nas) are wild, hairy, southwestern cousins of pigs.....

No matter where I go, if I find a bookstore I have to check it out. That is how I came across this delightful retelling of the Three Little Pigs. My family had taken a vacation to the Big Bend National Park in Texas and I found this book in one of the souvenir shops at the park. I was immediately captivated by the artwork and the use of javelinas instead of regular pigs and a coyote instead of a wolf. The story is very cutemuch more entertaining than the old standby original. I think every Texan will find this version of the little pigs to very satisfying!

This is a great story- it follows the three little pigs story line- set in the soth west. The illustrations are vivid and well done. Adults will enjoy it too as they read it to their children.
