This delightful novel takes the reader on a romp through Europe at the beginning of World War II. Two sisters, Clara and Madeline, are sent by their dying grandmother to give letters to their grandmother's friends and her estranged sister. The grandmother arranges their itinerary to match one that she experienced years ago. Along the way, the girls travel on the first class transportation of the Queen Mary, the Orient Express, and the Hindenburg. Clara has doubts about her engagement to Charles Hancock and finds herself attracted to her married art tutor, Edward Arnold. Madeline is single, independent, and enjoys wearing slacks, unlike her beautifully attired sister, Clara. Although the two sisters are quite different, their sisterly bond grows stronger as the story unfolds. There is very little war action in this uncomplicated story filled with luxurious travel, making it a light and easy read.
