One night, as twelve-year old Laurie Langridge crawled into his bed, he was amazed to see a boy about his own age extricate himself from the tangled bedclothes. He was even more astonished to discover, he was no longer in Sydney in 1973, but in London one hundred and eleven years earlier, and that the stranger in his bed was a young crossing sweeper named Frank Kilderbee. After this first hilarious encounter, Laurie returns to London several times. He and Frank make their forays into the winding back streets and markets, the coffee houses, theatre and ragged schools. After a time the trips stop as mysteriously as they had begun and Laurie remains in Australia, but he meets someone in Sydney who proves beyond doubt that his adventures were not a dream.?...
