Ashley, I read and or skimmed this book. He traveled from time to time so much it gave me a headache. I still think I'd like to see the movie because the leads are Eric Bana (sp) and Rachel MacAdams and maybe in this case I'd like the movie better than the book.

Lol.  I saw the same preview tonight and was gonna ask the same question here myself:P  Great minds think alike, Ashley:)  I guess I won't get the book after all & as much as I hate spoilers, you guys will have to tell me if I should see the movie or not - I won't if the ending is depressing:P

The ending left me with a smile on my face. . .their love transcended time!

I read this book about 3 years ago and still think about it from time to time.  One that I will re-read!!!  Great book!

I dont consider it a romance. It's not a romance by RWA's definition altho it has a love story. But I just consider it a tragedy and the ending did NOT leave me with a smile on my face. There was a lot of creepy things about the story, the least of which is whether Claire ever really had a choice in having her life not be entwined with Henry's.

I read the wikipedia thing and it kinda grossed me out that he TT's and has sex with her when she's 18 and he's 41.  I have mixed emotions about that; I guess it could be romantic, but it's also a little icky in a way, and I can't judge without reading it, but it seems selfish of him too, & also vaguely like cheating, for some strange reason I can't quite explain:P

It is a sad ending. I thought it was going to be a light time travel book, kind of Star Trek-ish. I never would have read it had I known it would have turned out the way it did.

If you do the math, Claire spend more time waiting for him in the end than all the time they had ever been together. And it's not like her life moved forward during that time either - because of what he wrote. So she waited. What a sad, sad life that was. That wasn't something that transended time, that was a life stopped, waiting for time to pass.

I may see it when it comes out on DVD. I really like both Rachael McAdams and Eric Bana. Hopefully, like My Sister's Keeper, they may change the ending to a better one.

I read the wikipedia summary too and I don't think I want to read it anymore.  It sounds too sad.  I'm very rarely in the mood for sad.  Life is depressing enough as it is, ya know?

Bottom line is that I loved the novel, even if it ripped my heart out. It was an amazing reading experience, all the more rewarding because it's not an easy bk to read. It's not told in any linear fashion because of all the time jumping so very hard to keep track of. Also, Henry is hard to like. Basically he is a punk and rather selfish. Not very heroic. Just a regular dude with an extraordinary ability. It also didnt help that I thought Claire was a bit of a masochist.

I am excited that Rachel McAdams was cast. Think she will do a great job with it and she looks better as a redhead anyway,

It was a great book... until the ending. Which is why some of us were so bummed out about the sad, sad ending. I cried buckets. The characters stayed with me, because I liked them so much. But the sadness staying with me, was NOT what I wanted.

Like Crystal said, parts of life can be depressing enough. I've had enough of it already in this lifetime. I deserve a pass now. I don't want to spend time reading a sad, depressing ending. I read romance novels for the happy endings. If I put in that much time into reading, I want a happy ending.

A two hour movie, like Bridges of Madison County, fine, I'm in. I'll bring lots of Kleenex. But not for a book I spent days with.

The book actually taught me something. As I venture into other new genres outside of romance, the first thing I do now, is scour the Amazon reviews and book descriptions to see if it will have a sad ending. If I get even a whiff of one, I'm off to pick a different book. There are plenty of happier ones to read.

I actually finished this book a week or two ago-I saw a preview of the movie and it gave me goose bumps, so I went to the library and checked it out. I really liked it-it was different than anything I had read (it was my first time travel book-Outlander is waiting patiently on my shelf) and despite the fact that I was crying by the end, I felt like I got something out of it. I am definitely a happily-ever-after kind of reader; I don't like depressing books but this one was an experience that I'm glad I didn't skip.

See I hope the movie stays as close to the book as possible. I had to read the book twice back to back  to catch on some of the things I missed along the way. I really enjoyed it .

There was a time when I could have read & enjoyed something that ended on a tragic note, but I couldn't do that now.  I'm programmed to expect the HEA, and I'd be furious.

I also did not care for this book.  I was so hoping to love it because of all the raving reviews, but that was not to be.  I did not particularly like the Hero or heroine, although in this book, I should not call them H/H.

They changed the ending of the movie due to bad previews:

This was a beautiful, lyrical book and I didn't consider the ending sad.  If you read through the book, you know that the end is not the end.  I didn't end it with a smile on my face but with a heart full of love for these characters that love really does transcend time.  I'm sorry they've changed the ending of the movie.  Not sure I'll see it now.

I've read it through twice and I've listened to the unabridged CD reading of it.  Each time, it's left me with chills and hope.
