I was wondering if the rest of you are not hoving very many readers wanting to swap books?  In the last month only one person requested a book from my list.  What would you suggest. Thanks.  Brenda W.

It could be due to the zaniness of the holiday season. People busy with other things right now.

This is your first holiday season on PBS so I'd just wait it out and see what the new year brings. A number of your books have multiple copies in the system so you may be closer to the high end of the inventory.

Patience is one thing we learn here.

Hi Brenda,

I've noticed that quite a few of the book shelves I've tried to access are on hold, which tells me Gail probably hit the nail on the head.  Holiday time can be crazy and many of us are just holding off from ordering/shipping until things settle down.

If you have a good quality Goodwill or thrift store nearby, it never hurts to check them out for WL books to post.  Your shelf is kind of small and tend to be mostly mystery types.  I've seen other posts in this thread where members suggest a shelf of about 100 books as a good round number for moving books to gain credits.  'Friends of Library' sales are another good way to add books - mine local library sells pbs for 25 cents.  Just a few suggestions ... :)

Welcome Brenda!

I have been here just longer than you have and here is what I learned about books....first, not all books are going to move very fast.  For example, I posted a copy of Dean Koontz, Velocity.  At the time I was not aware but there are several hundred copies of that book available.  And since PBS works on a FIFO (first in, first out) basis, unless someone orders it directly from my shelf then I will be waiting for a few hundred other people to request that book before it comes to my turn.  I notice a few authors on your shelf that are also highly posted, and so you likely aren't going to get requests on those very quickly.

Part of it, is that it is the holidays and people are taking longer to respond to holds, respond to requests, or to mail things out.  Right now I have a request that is nearly at the mail by date and still hasn't been marked sent, and that hasn't happened with any of my other requests...but its nearly New Years and so things get busy.

One suggestion I do have is posting on the boards, or offering some of your books as a 2 for 1 deal on the Book Bazaar.  Both of these things will increase your visibility on PBS.  And I can't tell you how many times I have clicked on someone's shelf from the message boards just to look and gone....oohhh that looks good!, and then requested something.

Another thing that I always do is look around at the books that are on my to be read shelf.  And I pick out a few that I am considering reading next and then check them on PBS.  If there are a bunch of copies available, and I really need credits, then that goes back on the TBR shelf for now.  If one of those books has a wish list, bingo!  It is my next book to be read if I need the credits right now.

Just took a quick look at your bookshelf, and I'm guessing most of the books you have listed have quite a few copies available, so it may take awhile to move to the front of the line where they will get ordered. As others have suggested, you can offer deals in the Book Bazaar to get your shelf noticed if you need the credits. Also check out local Friends of the Library sales or garage sales to get cheap books to post here for credits if your wishes outweigh your requests.

As Stefani mentioned, you can plug in the ISBN of books on your TBR to see if they are wishlisted and read and post those first to get a few credits. However, it's kind of nice to read a mixture of books (some wishlisted, some not) because if there are 100 copies of a book available now, if you put it aside and read it three months from now, there may be 200 copies then...then it will take even longer to get chosen, so it can be nice to just read some of those heavily posted books and get them on that queue too.

Things are slower right now too though with the holidays. I have both my account and wishlist books all on hold partly for the busy-ness of the holidays and partly because we're moving at the end of January.

I have mailed out 23 books since taking my account off hold on 12/23 with a further 9 going out today so it is business as usual for me. When you are a new member it will take a while for your books to work their way to the top of the FIFO list and as others have said, posting a few wishlist books will always keep things moving. My shelf is usually about 320 books and with those I have a steady stream of requests plus I am always posting WL books that I have found at the thrift store. Patience is the key here at PBS and in time you will start to receive requests too.

As already mentioned, typically we've seen swaps slow down a bit over the holidays.  It's also not unusual to see more books posted in January as members read and post books they've received for Christmas.

It is also business as usual for me, as I have had a large number of books coming and going this month.  Some books that have been on my shelf forever have departed as well as some I just posted but were not WLed.
