I mailed a book to a non-PBS member using PBS postage.  This book is showing up on my Main page (Items needing my attention) under both the En Route To Me and also the Books I've Mailed.  (Actually, I did this twice and both books are showing up both places.)  Neither shows up in Transaction Archive.

I was waiting for the system to time them out then disappear, but one was supposed to go away 11/22 and it hasn't.  (Second book isn't due for system action until 12/17.)

Why hasn't the first book, which has timed out, gone away yet?  I could mark the book received on En Route To Me page, but I don't know if it's true that it's been received and haven't any way to find out unless they contact me.  And that still won't get rid of the book on the Books I've Mailed page, which seems never to go away since person isn't PBS member so they won't mark it received and there is no way for me to do it.

What should I do?

I think you need to contact R&R (the site owners) about this - sounds like a glitch to me.  You can reach them using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.

If you use the mail a book to a friend tab, it does show up in both places. This is because you need to mail it and they can't mark it as recieved.  Because no credit is earned or deducted I do not believe it would show up as a transaction. I also believe that because it is waiting on you to tell it that the book was received it does not time out and disappear. You would have to mark it as received.

Go to your list of the books that you are waiting to recieve and say that the book has arrived and it will walk you through the process. because there is not a credit in waiting. It does not matter if you mark it or not. It does not change the outcome.

If you would like to send a book ON YOUR BOOKSHELF to a friend (PBS member or non-PBS member):
  • Go to your Bookshelf
  • Find the book you want to send in the list
  • Click on the right
  • Fill in the name and address where you want the book sent
    • Print out the wrapper and send the book as usual
    • The transaction will appear on your account page TWICE--both in your incoming AND your outgoing transactions ("Books I've Mailed" and "En Route to Me")
  • When your friend receives the book, mark it received from your list of books you have sent
  • This is a non-credit transaction. No credit will be deducted, or granted, for sending your own book out this way.

When I do the mail to a friend I always just mark it recieved after I mark it mailed cause it really doesnt matter to the system that it was recieved. Its just there so you can track it from your account.

Thanks, guys.  I'll try marking them received on En Route tab.  If that doesn't solve my problem, I'll contact R&R.

FOLLOWUP:  Receiving the books eliminated the problem.  Thank you again, my friends, for your help.
