So, I had a copy of HOURGLASS that I finally sat down and read pretty much in one evening. I could not put it down. So I was extremely excited to find that TIMEPIECE was available on NetGalley. I had to find out how the story continued straight away, so after the upload, I began
Well, I have to say, it was a little different than I expected it to be. Dont get me wrong, it was still GOOD. It just wasnt what I was anticipating. I was hoping for the same viewpoint as Hourglass, continuing from Emersons point of view. What I got was a look inside Kaleb Ballards head instead.
Kaleb is a secondary character in Hourglass and one that is not immediately likeable. Even in Timepiece, I still had a hard time connecting to him. I see the authors point in making the story from his POV, but I think there may have been better options, such as Michael, or even Lily.
In Timepiece, we have the group from the Hourglass continuing to search for Jack Landers. Only now, the group has a deadline and an ultimatum from Chronos. They have until Halloween to find Jack and turn him over so that they can fix the time continuum. Otherwise, the world will be in chaos, and all Emerson has fought for will be for naught.
Since we watch the action unfold through Kalebs eyes, the reader gets to struggle with all his self doubts and patronizing ways. He continually blames himself for his moms comatose condition. He is constantly placed in one on one situations with Lily so the reader knows what is ultimately going to happen.
The story is as well written as Hourglass. Dont get me wrong. I just had a hard time with the POV for this story. I think maybe Kaleb wouldve been better for the next installment, slowly working himself into the story more. The action still moves quickly and made me want to get to the finish line. Only to find out that the story continues on.
