I love the idea of this book. A tortoise who has been observing the world around him/her for half a century. A different view of the 1700's, from the ground.
However, I had a hard time reading this. I might say it is written very "smart". There is a glossary in the back of words and phrases from the time period but there were plenty of other words I needed to look up that weren't listed (hard to believe those words are well known!).
This is beautifully written with descriptions of nature and country life that has an audience out there that would appreciate it. I think I am more of a plot driven person.
