have referred one person (my mom, Hi Mom!) but I don't have too many other friends who read a lot. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to get more referrals? What has been the most effective way YOU have found to refer people to PBS to get referral credits? TIA! |

None. Well, I actually think I got a referral credit from the lady at the PO, who joined after seeing me come with all my books to mail over the months. But otherwise, it's not a huge source of incoming credits for me. I have heard of people posting on Craigslist, but I don't go on the site and find it annoying. I think the best thing to do would be to increase your bookshelf (if you have more books at home, post 'em) because it's pretty small with some very common titles. You can also do a deal in the Book Bazaar to perhaps generate some interest and credits. |

I have posted on craigslist about a dozen times and haven't gotten one referral yet. |

I have a few referrals, but just from other bookish friends. I probably get them because I tell people if they join and I get a credit I'll just buddy it back to them because I don't need it. If you're actually wanting to do it for the credits, that's probably NOT the way to go. LOL You could go to the section (can't remember what it's called now....Spread the Word, I think....) and click on their bookmarks and fliers and stick PBS bookmarks in library books or leave them around bookstores...put your member name and e-mail address on them so if people do sign up they can use your referring name. I also have a PBS T-shirt and the huge PBS canvas tote bag that I use regularly, and people I work with and know have asked me about PBS as a result of that. Cheryl |

I printed out bookmarks and took them to the library sale. But I was way too busy looking at books to sell PBS. I heard about it from Freecycle. I imagine a network of homeschooling folks would be a good place to promote PBS.

I think the people who get large amounts of referrals have blogs or websites where they link to PBS and it credits them with the referral. I haven't put any effort into it because I've never been low on credits. |

Ive also printed out some PBS referal business cards and fliers...I carry them with me - and sometimes I have given them to people at Garage Sales and Goodwill ( Thrift store ).. ~ Ive also mentioned this site to family members and friends,.. plus there is also a email "flier" in the referral section that you can send to your friends and family! |

you could also put the link in your "personal" email signature line. At work or school tell people about the site - enthusiasm is contagious - just have the book marks or flyers handy to give them. |

I have done all the above, left bookmarks in public places, sent the flyers to my friends, have it in my signature line on my email, etc, and haven't gotten any referrals yet. So disappointed.
edited to add - my sister just joined after hearing me talk her head off for months, lol. Alas, she just joined then had a hospital stay so really hasn't had much time to do much yet. But give her time, lol.... Last Edited on: 9/12/09 11:36 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
