Another dish in the highly addictive menu of the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire novels. If you've not read any of the series, start at the beginning, as the story unfolds in a way that makes progressive reading a must. As a native Southerner, one of the things I like best about these books is Charlaine Harris' grasp of both Southern culture and language. Her voice is authentic and the Louisiana people and folkways she writes about are arresting and true. Somehow that authenticity extends to the paranormal characters and events in the series. It seems perfectly understandable that Sookie would have fairies at her breakfast table and vampires in her bed.
